Engineering in emergencies

Engineering skills are vital in disasters. We strengthen the capacity of engineers for greater preparedness, resilience, and response capabilities.

Humanitarian engineering builds resilience

RedR was founded in 1980 to bring much-needed engineering expertise into the humanitarian sector. Humanitarian engineers applies engineering principles, skills, and technologies to support affected communities.

We train and support humanitarian engineers around the world by working with engineering institutions, such as private firms, universities, and professional membership bodies, and partnering with organisations responding to disasters. We can therefore develop and apply highly technical and contextualised expertise.
