Strengthening humanitarian data analysis capacity

We’re working with USAID to build analytical capacity in the humanitarian sector.

RedR is offering free learning courses in humanitarian data analysis and decision-making

This is a global project funded by USAID BHA, and in partnership with ACAPS

Why does data analysis matter?

In the midst of humanitarian crisis, the right decisions can save lives. Yet so many choices are made without proper analysis of the best data. Our mission is to change that.

Without comprehensive analysis, the specific needs of crisis-affected and vulnerable populations risk being poorly understood.

Principled and evidence-based decision-making for disaster-affected people is only possible with analytical capacities available based on a strong methodological foundation and a solid theoretical framework.

What are the dynamics that influence a life-saving decision?

The humanitarian decision-making process often appears like a black box, where evidence goes in and a decision comes out. We want to open-up the box, and help decision-makers in the sector to reflect on the underlying dynamics of humanitarian decision-making, mitigate biases, and make better and more effective use of evidence.

We’re offering many learning opportunities, including online bitesize training through the Data Literacy Learning Series, that include blended courses (online and self paced), , face-to-face training tailored to contexts in East Africa and the Middle East, simulations and exercises that targets decision makers, and a10-week Humanitarian Analysis Bootcamp beginning September 2024 (spaces now full).

Who should join us?

We welcome participants globally with a broad range of ages, roles, and experience in the humanitarian sector. Priority will be given to applicants from developing, low-income countries and territories (LICs). National staff working within the humanitarian sector are keenly invited to apply.

We strongly encourage applications from women and underrepresented groups. RedR welcomes a diverse range of applicants to the course, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

Alumni Network

We believe that the quality of analysis improves and is less biased when analysts work together. There is a huge potential for sharing expertise, creating knowledge, peer support and professional networking for the benefit of the whole sector and ultimately the people in need. This is why we want to connect and convene analysts by creating a space for alumni. We tap into these synergies by organising and encouraging initiatives like local live events, webinars, round-tables, online fora, and other opportunities to share experiences and knowledge.
