Understand how to develop and write clear proposals in the humanitarian sector
Proposal writing serves an important function for humanitarian agencies and NGOs. The ability of NGOs to deliver aid is dependent on their access to funds, and the quality of project proposals determines whether or not funds are ultimately received. Writing proposals is a common and necessary task for staff in various levels and roles throughout the organisation, nevertheless, the task can be challenging and requires skills in both project design and writing.
This course explores the necessary skills and knowledge required for proposal writing, and allows space for both theory and practical application of proposal writing skills.
Course aim:
To provide participants with the necessary skills and knowledge required to develop and write targeted and clear proposals in the humanitarian sector.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
• List the components and logical flow of proposals ;
• Explain what makes proposals effective;
• Adapt proposals to fit donor requirements, preferences and guidelines;
• Use tools, such as the logical framework, to design proposals with clear logic;
• Use tools to effectively plan for proposal writing in a project team ;
• Identify appropriate writing styles and practices
Course Structure
Course Structure
The programme will be run over three days between Monday 6th May and Wednesday 8th May 2024, allowing time between sessions for collaborative working and self-study.
Sessions will run between 10:00 and 12:30 UK time each day (UTC+1). Please ensure you note all these dates and times carefully.
The module comprises three live facilitated sessions of 150 - 180 minutes’ duration. The course will take place live session on Zoom.
Participants will be involved in discussions and activities in order to deepen their understanding of the concepts that are discussed. Participants will be offered opportunities to share relevant personal experiences and reflections to benefit their own and others' learning.
Who should attend?
This module is relevant for all who are working on humanitarian response in disaster contexts around the world - including disasters and conflicts in Afghanistan, Sudan, Ukraine, and Morocco.
This course is offered for free; on a first come first served basis. Places on this course are prioritised for those working directly on humanitarian response. How to join?
The live online sessions are hosted on Zoom. We recommend joining via the Zoom app. Participants may join the training via a browser, although the browser offers limited access to some of the interactive features of the training. Participants will be expected to have a stable internet connection and to actively participate in all facilitated sessions.
If you complete registration and are no longer able to attend, please cancel your place through Eventbrite. This allows us to offer your place to someone else on the waitlist.
