Exploring the importance of mobilizing and managing resources (human and financial) when responding to the Horn of Africa drought.
This module explores why it is important to mobilise and manage resources when implementing a humanitarian response. This includes human resource and staff management, monitoring and evaluating your resources, and mobilisation financial resources through effective proposal development. The module is contextualised for the Horn of Africa drought response.
The module is a live session that will take place on zoom. The session provides opportunities for learners to actively participate in the session and to apply the learning to their own context.
*Note that the module is short and is intended to provide an introduction to the topic. The key messages document that will be shared at the end of the session provides a summary of all of the key points as well as further learning that they can undertake after the module to deepen their understanding of the concepts that are introduced.
Module aim

Module Objectives
By the end of the session you will be able to:
- Identify key elements of a good proposal
- List the sections of a proposal and describe the content for each
- Outline roles and responsibilities in the proposal development process.
- Explain the key aspects of human resource management (HRM) which are involved in disaster response
- Identify aspects of HR which may cause problems for humanitarian agencies
- Identify strategies for addressing key issues in HRM
Course Structure
The module comprises a live facilitated session of 180 minutes’ duration.
Who should attend?
Anyone responding to the humanitarian needs of people affected by the crisis in the Horn of Africa and who would like to know more about how to conduct a needs assessment. This is a beginner level course.
This course is offered for free; on a first come, first served basis. We will be creating a waiting list, so please email us if the course is already full so we can keep you in mind if anybody drops out.
How to join
If you would like to attend, please register through Eventbrite. You will receive instructions on how to join the course after registration.
The live online sessions are hosted on Zoom. We recommend joining via the Zoom app. Participants may join the training via a browser, although the browser offers limited access to some of the interactive features of the training. Participants will be expected to have a stable internet connection and to actively participate in all facilitated sessions.
