Sudan programme highlights
Since establishing its Sudan Programme in 2005, RedR has been delivering a range of essential training programmes to aid agencies. We specialise in safety and security training, helping ensure that relief workers can continue to support the needs of millions of refugees.
Provide staff welfare support for aid workers
RedR also provides vital Staff Welfare and Critical Incident Training to humanitarian staff in Sudan, and through a Support Network empowers workers to move on from traumatic experiences faced in insecure environments. Our programme has so far supported 228 aid workers.
Deliver innovative programmes to save lives
With the ongoing conflict in Darfur, the need for RedR's training programmes is widely recognised. Safety and security training helps save lives and allows relief personnel to continue working in insecure areas.
RedR is constantly developing innovative new courses to respond to the needs of humanitarian workers in view of the changing security situation in Sudan. Two new courses, Field & Travel Safety and Dealing with Kidnapping / Abduction, were launched in Spring 2009 to address the threat to aid personnel who regularly travel to isolated areas or those based in high risk locations.
Developing local skills
During 2008, nearly 95% of participants on RedR's courses in Sudan were Sudanese nationals. This training ensures that the skills and knowledge gained on courses remain in the country where it is most needed. Building local capacity is beneficial to aid agencies, delivering programmes and for responding to future disasters.
