General course introduction
RedR has introduced a new course to respond to the recent high impact incidents occurring in Pakistan. The course is designed to give the fundamental aspects to field workers of dealing with kidnapping/abduction. The course is an intensive overview of incidents that have occurred, personal preparedness/response and organisational preparedness/response. The day will utilise a variety of learning techniques through group work, visual aids, plenary discussions and drawing case study information.

Suitable for:
Dealing with Kidnapping/Abduction will benefit anyone who is regularly travelling to more isolated areas, those based in high risk locations, and/or those likely to be part of crisis management teams. The course is only available in English at the moment; and it is a pre-requisite to have attended the Management of Staff Safety course, or have equivalent knowledge in staff safety.
Course covers:
Dealing with Kidnapping/Abduction will help participants develop some key skills that will potentially reduce individual and organisational risks. The key elements of the course include:
· Give a basic overview of the current situation, and relate it to the global picture
· Define the concepts/definitions of kidnapping & abduction
· Discuss key information on personal preparedness to prevent and/or limit vulnerabilities
· Provide information on the stages of personal response; with tip/guidance for dealing with the incident
· Discuss organisational preparedness through four key areas
· Develop/Discuss organisational responses in terms of the crisis management plan and crisis management team.
Course outcomes:
The course draws on elements of RedR’s current training suite; and prior knowledge of your organisations’ safety policies and procedures is required to take full advantage of the course. It is an intensive one day course to give participants information to cascade through their field site/organisation.
Cost:
The cost of the course is USD 50/participant/day for International NGOs and USD 25/participant/day for National NGOs (per the standard, subsidised rates).
