About the Course:
HR is an essential component of a humanitarian organisation, from ensuring that staff with the right expertise are recruited, through ensuring staff are managed and recompensed in fair and efficient ways and that their welfare is monitored and supported. Poor people management can lead to low motivation, poor performance and the loss of good staff. Each of these has a cost for the organisation and a negative impact on the quality of projects and on accountability to communities and to donors.
This is a three-day course that aims to develop the competencies needed to undertake HR for a humanitarian NGO in Sudan. Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate the essential skills and confidence to fulfil key HR responsibilities such as recruit and select staff, ensure staff receive a relevant induction, assess staff capacity and develop capacity building plans, facilitate objective setting and performance management processes, ensure HR policies, pay and benefits are effective in the situation, and where applicable contribute to the scaling down of a humanitarian programme.
To develop and enhance the knowledge, skills and confidence of HR staff to conduct HR management and development in humanitarian work in Sudan.
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
• Explain the role of HR in humanitarian organisations
• Undertake recruitment and selection for NGOs in Sudan
• Advise on posts required, organisational structure and budgeting for staff in humanitarian programmes.
• Induct staff and facilitate the setting of objectives and managing of performance.
• Apply pay policy and manage benefits to ensure effective resourcing of humanitarian programmes.
• Conduct learning needs assessments amongst individuals (staff or staff of partner organisations)
• Develop a staff capacity development plan
• Explain the contribution made by HR to ensure the ongoing welfare, health, safety and security of staff.
• Use, adapt and develop HR policies, apply minimum standards where appropriate, and manage HR information.
• Describe and apply best practice to scaling down and separation management;
• Utilise HR best practice based on the Sudan context;
• Develop awareness of human resources issues related to compliance with relevant local legal frameworks and organisational codes and standards.
Who Should attend:
HR staff in national and international NGOs in Sudan. And humanitarian personnel responsible for managing others.
