Essentials of Humanitarian Practice will give participants an insight into life working in the field whilst increasing understanding of the characteristics of natural disasters, conflict induced emergencies and the requirements for an effective humanitarian response.
Practical learning is at the heart of the course, during the week we will put trainees at the centre of an emergency response in an engaging simulation. This will challenge their motivations and beliefs, giving a firsthand understanding of what it is like to work in the field.
By using the tailor-made service you are not limited to the full five days of the standard EHP course, nor the specific topic areas covered. We would be happy to tailor the agenda to meet the needs of your organisation by adapting, adding or removing modules.
Anyone working in or entering the humanitarian sector.
Participants will examine the humanitarian context, the concept of humanitarian principles, the international humanitarian system, accountability, international law, needs assessment, individual responsibility and the potential impacts and dilemmas of humanitarian responses.
Cross-cutting themes such as gender, culture and security are considered throughout the course. Individuals will be encouraged to reflect on their own motivations and competencies for relief work regularly during the week.
As a guide, the Essentials of Humanitarian Practice Workshop usually runs between four to five days. However, we would be delighted to work with you to create the training solution that best meets your needs.
