RedR attending 5th Aid and International Development Forum

For the second year running RedR will be attending the Aid and International Development Forum (AIDF) in Washington DC from 22 – 23 July. RedR will be exhibiting at the event – highlighting training courses and promoting the use of the technical support service (TSS) to international audiences – as well as presenting a session on crisis management in international programmes.

Erin Noordeloos, International Programmes Director at RedR and security expert, who attended last year’s event and will be taking part in the Forum again this year, comments: " The forum provides RedR UK with an opportunity to showcase its programmes to a wider audience and demonstrate exactly what people and skills for disaster relief means. But more importantly, the forum provides a space for NGOs and private companies to engage with each other on key issues in the sector, through panel sessions and highlighting innovations in Aid delivery. I would encourage people to attend, see who is exhibiting and listen to the presentations."

AIDF, which takes place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Centre, is now running in its fifth year. However, this year will be the first time the event will encompass the development sector as well as humanitarian aid. Set within a tradeshow setting, the event is a great opportunity to network, build partnerships, and to address global humanitarian and development challenges, as well as showcase goods and services to those who are responsible for delivery.

Everything under one roof

The Forum is a mix of exhibition stands, workshops, seminars and experiential activities with access to the most up to date information and products. Participants will discuss policy, the needs of the sector and exchange best practice at the same place that they can see, touch and experience products that are used, or about to be used in the field. AIDF has three main objectives:

Featured over the course of the two days will be leading suppliers of goods and services in the provision of disaster relief, humanitarian aid and the development of health, education and basic utilities for developing economics. Workshop sessions will address key issues such as climate change, combating infectious diseases, global partnerships for development, and logistics and procurement.

Speaking at last year’s event, Hansjoerg Strohmeyer, Chief of Policy and Development branch for UN OCHA said: “This is a fair in a way that doesn’t only talk about the politics but also brings together very practical solutions with the policy and the politics and those different communities, and that is why we will definitely stay engaged in this.”

Whilst in Washington, RedR will also be running its sector-leading Certificate in Security Management, from 26 – 30 July, for full details see the RedR online training calendar.
