Yesterday, 21 people lost their lives when gunmen stormed Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, Pakistan. Among the dead were students, at least one teacher, guards and policemen. An estimated 50 people were wounded.
RedR offers its deepest condolences to all those affected.
"This is a very sad day for Pakistan," said RedR Representative Mubashir Fida. "Our thoughts are with those who lost loved ones, with the students and teachers who endured the attack, and with people grieving throughout the country. For many, this event brings back memories of the December 2014 assault on Army Public School in nearby Peshawar, in which almost 150 people were killed.
We look forward to the day when children and students in Pakistan can pursue their education without fear."
RedR continues to work with schools and communities across Pakistan to ensure that children know how to react when disaster - whether natural or conflict-related - strikes.
